Dentures

Dentures are an excellent solution to complete or partial tooth loss. Unlike outdated and unnatural dentures of years past, our custom-made modern dentures look, feel, and function more like natural teeth. You can receive a denture at Lake Marion Dental Care designed to meet your unique needs and complement your appearance.

Types of Dentures

There are several different types of dentures, each designed to achieve specific results and meet your distinct needs. Depending on your preferences, lifestyle, oral health status, and other factors, your dentist can determine which option is best for you.

Traditional Complete Dentures

Traditional complete dentures replace all teeth in the lower or upper arches of the mouth. They usually sit against the gums, require denture adhesive, and consist of a gum-colored base and attractive, high-quality artificial teeth.

Removable Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures are replacement teeth attached to a metal framework and gum-colored base. We usually recommend this type of denture to patients with partial tooth loss who cannot get an implant-supported bridge.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures, also known as overdentures, click into place and attach to dental implants (replacement tooth roots). Implant-supported dentures can restore one tooth or an entire set of teeth, and they do not permanently adhere to dental implants.

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are removable and can be used directly after tooth removal. Typically, a patient’s mouth must heal before using traditional dentures, but this isn’t the case with immediate dentures.

Though they are not specifically molded to fit your gums, immediate dentures are an option for patients who want an instant fix to tooth loss.

Snap-In Dentures

Snap-in dentures are removable implant-retained overdentures. Dental implants hold the snap-in dentures in place, and two to four implants are customarily used.

Once the dentist inserts the implants into the jaw bone, patients can snap in the denture or remove it at any time. The implants are permanent replacement tooth roots that you cannot remove.

The Benefits of Dentures

  • Modern dentures are comfortable, cost-effective, and perform the same functions as natural teeth.
  • Dentures restore your ability to bite and chew food.
  • Dentures restore your smile, eliminating the social awkwardness or embarrassment you may have felt about the gaps in your teeth.
  • Without a complete set of teeth, your facial muscles can sag from lack of support. Dentures restore this support once created by natural teeth and re-invigorate your facial appearance.
  • Tooth loss leads to jawbone deterioration, but dentures decrease this rate of bone loss by stimulating the mouth.
  • Partial dentures prevent excessive wear on natural teeth because they equally distribute chewing forces.
  • Traditional dentures are removable, so you can thoroughly and properly clean them. Conscientious oral hygiene helps remove plaque, eliminate bad breath, and stimulate gum tissue.
  • Tooth loss can affect your ability to pronounce words, while dentures restore your speech and pronunciation.
  • Dentures are available in acrylic materials or realistic porcelain to create a natural-looking smile.
  • Full dentures and removable dentures can improve your oral health by reducing the risk of periodontal disease, tooth decay, and more.
